Special Appeal Letter: St. Elizabeth Community
St. Elizabeth Community provides care for the elderly in four different facilities. Exercise is very important throughout our lives. And for the elderly it can help prevent falls, injuries, and also increase their ability to care for themselves.
My task was to write a special fundraising letter to their house file (existing donors, friends and family members of the guests at St. Elizabeth). The purpose of the letter was to request donations so they could do a rather extensive expansion of their exercise program in all four of the facilities.
I suggested they give specific examples of how donations would be used. In other words, what $25 would buy, what $50 might buy, and so on. They hadn’t done this before. I also wanted to warm the letter up a little so I gave a name to the woman I used as an illustration of how her life is better thanks to St. Elizabeth.
I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the folks a generation or two or three ahead of me. So I found particular satisfaction in writing this fundraising letter knowing it would help some of those wonderful people.
